In 2003, I walked the section from Wainui Bay to Totaranui as a day hike. The first photo was taken on that walk. I also walked a small part near Marahau the previous day. The tide was extremely low at the time and the last photo was taken then. In 2004, I walked from Totaranui to Marahau staying overnight in Bark Bay Hut. Because of the need to cross the Awaroa tidal estuary at low tide, I did not start walking until mid-afternoon and arrived at Bark Bay Hut just after dark. The second day was a leisurely walk to Marahau. The photos are arranged in order going from north to south along the track.
