Tongariro

On the first day, I walked from Mangetepopo via Taranaki Falls to Waihohonu Hut staying there overnight. The next day, I walked up to the Tongariro Crossing track near Emerald Lakes and then out to Ketetahi carpark. The plan was for Francia (my wife) and I to then walk the traditional Tongariro Crossing on the third day. Because her blisters from a previous hike had not yet healed, I proceeded to do this day as planned but on my own. The photos are arranged as follows: Photos from the first day and the part of the second day up to lower Emerald Lake are followed by photos from the Crossing. The last part of the crossing photos includes photos from both days. The many photos of Mt. Ngauruhoe from all angles are not because they are all so good, but because no one stood out in my mind and because that is the principle point of attention for much of the walk. This will give you a feel for what you will be looking at if you choose to do this walk, especially on the part of the circuit that is not part of the very popular crossing.
